Vinyl vs. Linoleum

About nine months ago we went on the search for black and white checkerboard “linoleum”. Through this experience came the suprise that the majority of the products out there are man made vinyls. What happened to the linoleums that I remember being in my Grandparents’ home and why isn’t linoleum readily available? In the quest for more information we stumbled onto Marmoleum. The company making the Marmoleum is using renewable materials such as linseed and jute. In addition no VOC’s are emitted from the adhesives that are used in the installation. These are just a few of the benefits to Marmoleum. The colors that are offered are unbelievable and you can cut designs and inlay them to your hearts content. We opted for vinyl based solely on price and I’ve gotta say we are regretting it in every way.

Chip & Putt

Last weekend, Noelle and I went to the local chip & putt in Shelburne, MA. The weather was perfect, right around 75 degrees with hardly a cloud in the sky. It was almost a perfect day, but it could have been better if we used some swank Callaway golf clubs instead of the loaners that the course provides. You know, something with a little more pizazz.

Other than that, the day was perfect!

Hydrangea,Hydrangea,Hydrangea

So I’m not much of a flower gardener but I try to help my wife out with it here and there. I swear if I hear the word Hydrangea one more time… My wife goes on and on about purple hydrangea, blue hydrangea, white hydrangea and how pretty they are, how she wants hundreds of bushes all over the yard. Every year I humor her and hope the following year the hydrangea will be a thing if the past. But to no avail she’s on the hydrangea tip again. Does everyone feel this way about hydrangea?

How About A Futon Mattress For Your Dog

I know the idea of a futon mattress for your dog may sound a little strange, but it’s worked for us. We have a Great Dane, the ultimate lounger for a canine. Until the brainstorm of using a 3′ by 4′ futon mattress as his dog bed we had been going through the lumpy cookie cutter dog beds to the tune of four a year. Definitely not worth it. Though the initial investment for a futon mattress seems a little much, it has payed off. It’s now four years later, the futon is the same form it was the day it came out of the package. I also want to mention that we put a washable cover on it, and it really made it easy to keep things clean. All and all this futon dog bed has given our boy sweet dreams.

Birth Announcements with Style

Well, it seems as though the theme of this morning is about little ones. I just shared with you one of the coolest cribs I’ve ever seen. And it’s fitting to now share a link to some very nice baby shower invitations at The Party Starts Here dot com. The cards and invites they peddle look great and the site wasn’t half bad either.

;)

Check it out and enjoy!

From A Crib To A Bed

As children begin to grow the insanity of having to purchase new items for their ever changing size and likes ensues. Our friends at Pacific Rim have come up with a crib that answers one of the problems parents face. The great thing about their crib is that it is a chameleon of sorts. It starts off as a beautiful crib for the earliest stages of life, and then converts into a daybed, and an arts and crafts youth bed. I think this piece of furniture encompasses all the positives. The crib is handcrafted from managed forests in Oregon and Washington, it is durable, it is esthetically pleasing, and is made to follow you with your growing family for many years.

Now That It Is Spring…

Nice Clay Jar

I think that I really begin to think about nature when spring rolls in and the birds really start to sing, the flowers start to bud, and the forest seems to come alive with activity. I happen to drink my morning coffee from a mug I purchased at a local crafts fair. The reason I like the mug so much is because the potters who made it actually use nutshells, fiddle head ferns, and leaves (just to name a few items they use) to texture their pottery. I must say each morning that in some crazy way I do feel more connected to the outdoors. In this fast paced technological world we all live in, it’s nice to take a moment and be reminded of nature.

My business card experience

Last year I decided that it was time to invest a little cash into some nice business cards. So, I took the time to head over to my local print shop, check out paper card stock, and come up with a logo (note the favicon at Goodnight Moon Futon). So, I spent a good amount on the cards from my local print shop and I must admit that I was underwhelmed. The paper was thinner than I thought it would be and gave off a flimsy impression. But, at least I had cards in time for my trip to the Futon Expo in Las Vegas!

But wait, later I found out that my uncle wanted to meet me in Vegas during my trip. I didn’t have time to order from the local shop and he couldn’t come with me if he didn’t have cards. I checked out Vista Print and ordered him a rush batch of cards. They were awesome, much heftier than the local cards and gave a great impression. If you need cards, return address labels or any other business materials check out Vista Print to see what they have to offer. You might be surprised at how much you get for the price.

Denim For Insulation?

I try to feature some eco-friendly and/or socially responsible products on the site. So, when I see things in these categories I have to squeeze them in. My wife and I have always wanted to build our own home with the environment in mind. Though they are now more alternatives than there used to be I thought the use of recycled denim for insulation was pretty cool concept. Though the denim isn’t coming from old used jeans, it still does a good job of incorporating 85% post-industrial cotton fiber from denim manufacturers. This product is also 100% recyclable, voc-free, and formaldehyde free. Definitely something to consider if trying to be more eco-friendly when building a new home.
