I just found a pretty cool contest over at http://www.lookoftheyear.com. How cool? Well, the idea behind the contest goes like this:
-The Look of the Year is holding an online beauty contest.
-Anyone can enter
-Winners from four categories are eligible to win a $10,000 grand prize.
It’s that easy, if you’re easy on the eyes enter and show the world what you’ve got. Even if you don’t win it will provide some great exposure.

These hand drawn sketches of furniture redefine the term furniture as art. I really dig the look of the drawings and would definitely hang one of them in my home. Truly stunning.

With the economy a little slow, it seems like retailers and mortgage lenders are giving some great deals in order to lure in potential business. There are so many online financing companies on the market today that it’s important to shop around for the best deal. Or, go to a site like Somerset Mortgage Lenders Co. that takes care of the search for you. Head over and request a quote if you’re interested.

Normally you wouldn’t find any Soft Wood in furniture design. Well, that is until a designer like Spazio Rossana Orlandi uses four by four stock anyway. It actually looks surprisingly good.

The Fixed Seats by Cecilie Manz is a minimalists dream table, though it’s definitely not the prettiest piece. The designer sums it up very simply as:
Two fixed seats at a table. Stainless steel, lacquer
I really like to read something a bit more colorful on a designers site, not that there’s much else to say about the Fixed Seats, but still.
-Enjoy the site.

A few months ago when Marie, Noelle’s grandmother, was living with us, she was dealing with some severe medical conditions that would have required hefty out of pocket payments were it not for her secondary insurance. For those of you without secondary insurance, check out Mature Health Center to actually get a medicare advantage. What good is health insurance if treatment costs an arm and a leg, no pun intended.

The Nautilus Bench via Yu Zhao is visually stunning. The sea shell design is really brought to life when joined with delicate wood slatting. Can be used indoors or out. Here’s what Yu Zhao has to say about the Nautilus:
Bench for outside use, inspired from nautilus, using single wood and bamboo pieces arranged along with the nautilus’ section line.

Has anyone else out there noticed how nice the centers for addiction treatment have become? I’m not bashing the whole thing or anything, but the images above look like they could be right at home in your next Pier One catalog. The furnishings are great, the atmospheres inviting, people would probably want to rent that space if it wasn’t a rehab center. But, if you want to kick your habit in style, you’d better have a hefty chuck of change. I don’t think it’s cheap.

As you might be able to see in the image, this metal frame is lacking any meaningful support for the futon mattress that has been placed on it. The gap between the “slat bars” has to be almost six inches, creating peaks and valleys in the mattress that are just not comfortable.
So, take this post as a word of caution when you’re thinking about a cheap metal frame. Chances are it’s poorly made and though it costs very little, it will cost you more in the end as it destroys your futon mattresses / back.
