Keeping Futon Articles Interesting

Strata Dillon Futon Frame

When I write a blog article about futons, I always try to follow a few simple rules.

  1. I always try to show an interesting image of the futon I’m reviewing. This adds a nice visual element to the post and, well, I tend to like it.
  2. Keep it short and sweet. Too much info about the futon industry can be a bit boring. Usually people like to read about prices, materials and warranties. Too often I see people in the futon business using their businesses as a way to push their political or religious philosophies (My old boss) and this tends to hurt in the long run. So, to sum up, stay on track
  3. Provide a link. Readers usually want to go straight to the source, so make sure you give credit where credit is due.

Those are just a few tips on Increasing Blog Article Quality

Yogic Lifestyle

Years ago Noelle and I used to take yoga together. It was a great practice that promoted core strength, flexibility and a yogic lifestyle. Recently I met Adam Bauer, owner of Dharma Boutique, a company that sells items related to yoga, sacred statues, and goods from India and Afghanistan. Dharma Boutique also carries some great fair trade goods and gives three percent of all total sales to some really great organizations, so shopping there will cost you a little less karma. Check them out and Enjoy!

Lounger Futon With Arms

A-Frame Lounger Futon Frame

When most people think “Futon Lounger” they usually envision an unfinished, armless frame that is very low to the ground. One of my suppliers just sent me an image that has me a bit confused, a futon frame that might just break the mold. The futon is called the “A-Frame” and it has a low or high arm option and is available in three finishes. Projected retail is around $269 for a full size and should be on the site soon!

Eco Solar Shades

Last fall Noelle and I put some serious thoughts into purchasing or making drapes for our windows (like you’d hang them anywhere else), but never really got around to it. It turned out to be a bit of procrastination we’re regretting now that New England is in the grip of an arctic freeze. Five years ago we had replacement windows installed and Noelle and I are unimpressed with the zone of cold air that surrounds each window, thus the though of drapes.

Today, I checked out some Eco Solar Shades at the The Shade Store, and I must say I’m very tempted to buy some for the house. Right now Noelle and I have those cheap plastic venetian blinds up, they’re extremely ugly and don’t have any insulating properties. When I learned that the Eco Solar Shade was 100% recyclable and GreenGuard Certified I liked them a little more. They also provide another layer of insulation around windows as well as protect from UV rays! If you’re not sold yet, The Shade Store is taking 15% off their Eco Shades right now, just enter code “IZEA01″ when you check out.

Ok, I’m back on Futons

After six hours of html coding for the new website I’m building for Portabella Catering (which made my brain feel a bit like tapioca) I’m back on board the futon blog! Today I’ve been thinking about my futon selection, I have a good mix of foam futons, cotton futons and combo futons which is a good thing. But, the one material I really need to get on the site is wool. Wool futon mattresses give great support, have insulating properties that make the mattress cooler or warmer with the seasons, and dust mite resistant properties. So, keep an eye out at Goodnight Moon Futon and you might just see a wool futon mattress on there very soon.

Some of my favorite things…

Today I find myself drawing a bit of a blank as I labor over extensive html & CSS coding, at least about futons, so I thought I’d at least share what I’m listening to today. Radiohead has to be one of my favorite bands, they always inspire me to think a little deeper about everything, and I must admit it did help me to relax a little to solve a frustrating wed design problem! Maybe listening to some of their music can inspire you too!

Need Help with a Futon Cover?

Nice Futon Cover

One of the most common Futon Cover questions I receive has to do with the loft size of a futon cover. Futon cover loft is proportional to the futon mattress thickness on which the futon cover is going to be placed. For a futon cover to fit properly the loft of the cover should to be two inches less than the thickness of the futon mattress.

I know it sounds a bit like a bad geometry problem (one train leaves Chicago traveling 60mph…) or something, but that’s a sure fire way to determine how to select your futon cover, or maybe replace a mattress and keep your old futon mattress. It’s up to you :)

Using Social Networking to get in shape!

As health becomes more of an issue for younger people every year, I was happy to see a social network called SOGO Active which promotes healthy exercise. Founded by Coca Cola Canada, the SOGO Active network is a great place to find athletic groups or activities in your area or create your own group with the intention of promoting exercise as a method to keep healthy. As a long time practitioner of Aikido and Japanese Sword Arts who practices six to eight hours a week, I was fairly impressed that a soda company would promote exercise in any manner. Some may see that as just a PR stunt, but we need to remember that they didn’t really have to to anything at all (that’s really a parents responsibility) to help children get all the activity they need.

So, how does it work?

If you’re interested in finding a group in your area or maybe creating and hosting a group of your own, visit SOGO Active and check out their site. You’ll find lots of info on groups, locations and how to create your own group on their network. If enough like minded individuals sign up, SOGO could make a really difference and maybe pull a few kids away from the television set. So, do your part today and help make a difference!

Top Four Futon Websites - The Informational Ones

There are so many futon websites on the internet now, it’s really hard to tell the good from the bad (well, sometimes anyway). Naturally I think Goodnight Moon Futon is the best, but since I own that one I’ll keep it off the list.
;)

So, here’s my top three futon sites:

  1. Futons.org : A great informational futon and bedding website that can help you find retailers. A good site to visit that won’t try to sell you anything.
  2. Futon Life : A site that’s been around forever, Futon Life has great consumer resources, a forum, and a lot of informative articles.
  3. Futon Magazine : Some great resources on finding the futon company that’s right for you. With a lot of advertising! There are some very useful tips on the do’s and don’ts of futon buying.
  4. All About Futons Ok, maybe I had to put one of my sites in the mix, but don’t worry this one is purely informational. I’ve put together some great tips about what goes into futons and what to look for when you buy. Enjoy!

Shiki Futon

Japanese Shiki Futon

Even though I’m a traditional futon guy, I don’t think I could swing with a Japanese Shiki Futon Mattress. They are only four inches thick and cost quite a bit more than your average six to eight inch futon mattress. For all I know, it could be a comfy futon mattress, but it’s a bit too thin for my tastes. On the other hand, Shiki futons do look nice and sleek, not over dominating a space.
