Shiki Futon
Even though I’m a traditional futon guy, I don’t think I could swing with a Japanese Shiki Futon Mattress. They are only four inches thick and cost quite a bit more than your average six to eight inch futon mattress. For all I know, it could be a comfy futon mattress, but it’s a bit too thin for my tastes. On the other hand, Shiki futons do look nice and sleek, not over dominating a space.

They are supposed to be a real space saver, and believe me they are much cheaper in the United States. Some cool information about them at Japanese Bed.
