When most of my customers are looking for a futon, usually they’re most concerned about two factors : Cost & Quality. At the same time, in this economy, most people are trying to save as much as possible in all their purchases. So, lets take a look at what what you get with “Cost” and “Quality” in the futon market.
Cost :
- When most customers are looking at futon frames, mattresses, or platform beds based on cost, they’re usually trying to get a lower priced futon.
- Lower priced futons usually sacrifice finer details the higher priced futons include. Features like finish options, wood choices, and futon longevity are all effected by the cost.
- While lower cost futons do sacrifice some on quality, lower priced futons are great for college kids, or first time renters. The isn’t much sense in buying a futon that you won’t end up keeping once you’re out of the dorm. So, they’re the perfect starter futon.
Quality :
- Higher quality futons usually provide a better end result. They last longer, provide more support, and are generally considered real furniture which is made for more than your friends to crash on.
- Higher quality generally means higher price. In today’s economy this can be a tall order.
So, while you’re shopping for a new futon, consider what your needs are, how long you want to use the futon, and what you’re budget is. Once you figure that out, you’ll find a wide variety in the futon market that will fit all our needs.

This Friday I’ll be headed to Portland, Maine to meet the Sensei who will should be testing me for my black belt this April (as long as everything goes alright this weekend anyhow). I plan on bringing my digital camera with me, so I can get some material for the dojo website, as well as to maybe get an outside view of what I’m doing wrong. But, then I remembered that my memory card sucks and now I’m searching for new memory cards before the trip in order to get some good pics.

All of you futon enthusiasts out there have probably already picked up on the fact that the Adriana Futon Daybed is discontinued. Even so, I regularly get traffic from major search engines by people looking for this once popular futon frame. The Adriana was a very unique product, with a look that was all it’s own. It was also, by far, one of the most solid futon frames I have had the pleasure to assemble and move. If you really want to see the Adriana back on the market, I’d recommend sending an email to Strata Furniture. Maybe a little consumer push could bring back a great futon frame!

During my quest to improve my cardio health before my black belt test, I’ve read a lot on the web about Mesothelioma. Apparently the disease is caused by exposure to asbestos, and is quite difficult to treat. But, as I’ve tried to avoid situations with hazardous materials, my lungs are still in good condition! Lets hope they’re in better shape for my test!

Over the past couple months I’ve been hearing some disturbing rumors from a few of my suppliers about a prominent futon cover manufacturer and the lack of quality control being performed on their imported futon covers. Apparently this Minnesota based supplier seems to be ok with a three inch deviation on the dimensions of their imported (Chinese) futon cover lines! That’s a major headache for anyone that actually wants to use one of these covers and have them fit, or actually look good!
That’s one of the major reasons that I only use futon cover manufacturers that make their products here in the US. The result is a futon cover of a better quality and (god forbid) if there is a problem with any of their futon covers, getting it fixed is a whole lot easier. Well, I suppose you could send one of the other suppliers futon covers back to China to get fixed!

So, today I started running two miles a day in prep for my black belt test that should be taking place in April. I think it will work wonders for my cardio and hopefully boost my endurance during my test. One of the things I won’t take any part in is searching for the best diet pill to help me stay in shape. With a little, healthy effort I can take care of that on my own!

Today I added a new feature to the futon blog, a poll for my readers about futons. I’d love to know how many of you have futons in your homes. And, since I think futons are some of the best furniture options for many spaces, I’m sure the majority of participants will say yes! So, let’s have it, let us know whether you do or don’t have a futon in your space.
See our right side bar to make your futon voice heard!

As my black belt test in Aikido creeps ever closer, I’ve decided to put some effort into strengthening my cardio. At the dojo I can usually hold my own, but I’ll be traveling to Maine at the end of the month and would rather not look like a wheezy slacker. So, recently I thought about trying out one of those elliptical machines at a gym, but instead figured I’d go for a run. It’s free and I think I’ll appreciate the changing scenery.

I wanted to share some info on a very promising site I just found which carries a huge selection of Discount Furniture. The site, Discount Furniture Warehouse has quite a variety of furniture, carrying almost all the brands my former employer did (that means high end) at what I assume is probably a better price. Discount Furniture Warehouse is an eCommerce retailer, who has a pretty slick site design that only lacks in one area, displaying prices. With such a diverse product selection, you need to display pricing on everything in order to give people that instant gratification of shopping on the web.
Other than my small complaint, Discount Furniture Warehouse has almost everything you’ll need to furnish your home, from great Living Room Furniture to name brands like Fairmont Designs. If you have a few minutes, stop by their website and take it all in. You might just find something new for your space, at a pretty good price.
