With all the grit, salt, and dirt that gets tracked into the house by our dog Jay I’ve been thinking about picking up a pair of shoes or sandals for around the house (very Japanese) in order to avoid walking in all the dirt. Today I found Clarks unstructured and was very tempted to pick up a pair of their sandals. But, I decided to hold out for a pair of Japanese zori sandals. Those of you who live in the Pioneer Valley in Western Massachusetts might remember a futon and furniture company called Sleepy Hollow in Amherst Massachusetts. Sleepy Hollow was a nice little futon company that had a great location in a multiple college town. When I tried to find their website in order to add them to my futon retailer list, I noticed that Sleepy Hollow was renamed to Factory Direct Discount Mattress. The futon selection seems to be the same before and after the name change, and they have a lot of what seems to be honest information. Not a lot of smoke & mirrors or the political rhetoric that you get from some of the other retailers in the Pioneer Valley in Western Mass. That’s why Factory Direct Discount Mattress just got added to my retailer list, they seem to be honest people you can trust.
So, over the past few months I’ve been prepping hard for my shodan test, which is fast approaching and scheduled for April! But, today I’ve been trying to work on a little brainless down time (something I feel is important with hectic work and training schedule). That’s when I stumbled across MagNext durning my journey thru the ether today as I got lost on my computer for a couple hours.
Normally I don’t really get into computer games (ok I used to have a thing for Star Trek games) but I actually found myself enjoying Magnext. Here’s how the whole thing works. When you enter the MagNext game, you start as a little silver ball. To move around you left click and journey around the game. As you travel, you can enter gaming rooms that allow you to earn experience and money to change the appearance of your ball. I just got the option to add snow flakes! Anyhow, the games are of the type that make you think. In other words, no shooting, no explosions, and no inappropriate content. Just good fun!

Almost everyone buying a futon today knows you need to look for an over stuffed futon mattress. But, knowing a thing and seeing it first hand is usually a totally different experience. The video above is a great example of of what the inside of a futon mattress should look like. The only thing I don’t really like is that this mattress hasn’t been used. If he had confidence in his product he might have grabbed a mattress that had a few years of use. The mattress may have been a little compressed, but it still should have been clearly over stuffed.
A lot of people seem to be in a pinch right now, especially if you’re looking for one of the “popular jobs” in the job pool. Competition is fierce, with so many people getting pink slips and so few new jobs available. But, never fear, there are so many sites in internet land that are here to help! Today I learned from a very helpful site that jobs in the medical profession grew by 1.65% on some job networks. That accounts for one of the largest increases to date!

The question posed in the title of this post is one that many futon shoppers ask when they delve into futon country. Metal frames have some great lines and look super modern, but are they as well made as wooden futon frames?
The simple answer is yes and no!
Some metal frames can be extremely well made, stylish pieces of furniture. They can provide great support and be fantastic fixtures in your space. Other metal futon frames, like those peddled by the mega marts are not worth the cost of the metal used to build them. Cheap metal frames have slats that are too thin and too far apart. This feature, or lack there of reduces the support and can ruin premium futon mattresses.
So, if you’re looking into a metal futon frame, steer clear of the mega marts and find a quality metal futon frame from a retailer that specializes in such goods.
So, as some of you may remember, I study aikido. That means that I personally can’t wear any jewelry (except my wedding ring which I can’t get off due to a swollen knuckle) on the mat. It can be dangerous to both the mats and my training partners. And, I’ve never been into any type of earrings. But, enough about what I’m into, I’m also terrible at choosing jewelry as a gift. Personally I think it has something to do with my martial arts training. The other part is that I have no idea what to look for in a piece of jewelry, not for my wife or girl friends in the past.
Today I found a jewelry site that has a tips for guys section in time for Valentines Day. I was excited because I thought this might help with my inability to pick out a tasteful piece of jewelry. I was a bit disappointed since the page lacked any content to help me, and thus my search moves on.
One of my new manufacturers just came out with a few new models of convertible upholstered sofas. I must say these sofas are great, they’re a step of the ladder of futon evolution. The convertible sofas ship anywhere, fit through any doorway or up any stairway, and can go in tight rooms since they are assembled after they arrive! Definitely a must see piece of furniture.
This summer I plan to spend some quality time with my younger brother Avery. My dad and him mom divorced a few years ago and right now I think he could really use a little time away from that whole situation. He’s also quite a baseball fan, so today I started pricing some New York Yankees tickets to see if we could go to NYC together, visit our Aunt, and maybe catch a game.
I had no idea tickets cost so much! I think we might just end up going to aikido together instead!
One of my favorite new futon retail websites is Fantastic Futons. Normally I’m not a huge fan of flash based websites, the cartoony nature makes it seem suitable only for anime sites, but Fantastic Futons really seems to pull it off well. I also like how they’ve laid out all their futons and the useful info. That’s why Fantastic Futons is now on the retailer list, they’ve actually tried to do something different on their futon website!
