What’s an unlocked phone?
After reading info on a few websites, I’ve come to understand that an unlocked phone is a cell phone that can be used with various GSM-compatible carriers worldwide. That means an unlocked cellphone can be used within United States with T-Mobile, Cingular/AT&T, etc.
What I don’t understand is why this isn’t just the norm, and why manufacturers don’t just offer phones that work in this manner anyway?
