Earlier this year Noelle and I took care of her grandmother, Marie. Marie suffered from dementia and memory loss, so caretaking for her was often very challenging. So, when I just found a site about the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk I knew I had to share a post about it with my blog readers. The Alzheimer’s Memory Walk is a great way to raise awareness about such a debilitating disease that afflicts so many.
I wish I could sum up the event better than alz.org, but they’ve done a pretty good job here:
The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk® is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research – and it calls on volunteers of all ages to become champions in the fight against Alzheimer’s. There are walks in more than 600 communities. A typical Memory Walk is a 2-3 mile walk held on a weekend morning in the fall.
By teaming up with the Alzheimer’s Association, you can walk with a purpose – and move us closer to a world without Alzheimer’s. Together, we can MOVE a nation.
I’m tempted to start a team of my own to join the walk, as that’s what the walk really needs. The Alzheimer’s Memory Walk is a nation wide event held in over six hundred communities. By entering your zip in the convenient search box, you can search for Alzheimer’s Memory Walks within thirty miles. If you’re in Western Mass you’ll be able to join walks in Brattleboro, Vermont, as well as Cheshire & Westfield Massachusetts. You might see me in Brattleboro if you sign up!
Goodnight Moon Futon Just added another chemical free futon mattress to the line, a six inch all cotton that’s borate free. The Non-Borate futon mattress is a great option if you’re interested in a more natural mattress but don’t want to spend a grand on a 100% organic.
All cotton futon mattresses have been around forever, they remain a staple of the futon world and will for the foreseeable future. High density foam futon mattresses are a more recent addition to the futon industry. HD futon mattresses are, in my opinion, a vast improvement over old fashion all cotton futon mattresses. All cotton futon mattresses tend to wear more quickly than HD futon mattresses, cotton batting will change much faster than foam.
So, if you’re a traditionalist about you futon mattresses stick to all cotton, it’ll feel the way you remember and give you exactly what you want.
The Visco Plush Futon Mattress is the perfect blend of memory foam, high density foam and natural cotton fiber. A medium firm futon mattress, the soft memory foam is balanced by the firm, precompressed cotton and the high density foam.
The Gemini Futon Mattress is one of the thickest futon mattresses at Goodnight Moon Futon. About nine and a half inches to be a little more exact. The Gemini futon mattress is great for sitting and sleeping, with a soft supportive feel that doesn’t bottom out.
If you tried to replicate the sceen above with an old innerspring mattress, that baby would be in trouble. Just another reason the futon mattresses are better.
The two guys in the video could have benefited from a little planning before they tried to move their futon mattress. It doesn’t even look like they used a bag or anything to protect their mattress. Yuck.
Ok, I don’t know if it was that bad, I grew up in northern Vermont so I don’t tend to think the snow is that bad but we did get a good covering of snow last night. Over a foot to be precise. What does this have to do with futons? Not much except, I was warm and toasty in my futon bed last night.
